The Role of A Lifetime: The Case Study for Women In Film

Abstract: According to AMC Action Films, action films are usually defined as having a tremendous impact, continuous high energy, lots of physical stunts and activity and contain a variety of two-dimensional characters. However, even though action and film are popular forms of entertainment in America, the authors were unable to find any data or accounts that entailed information of audience's' perception of women in film. The majority of documents that were discovered analyzed film and the women in them without referencing viewing parties. With this information, the authors realized there was a missing link in film and television research. Considering the average American watches five hours of television per day, the absence of this information is remarkable. This paper attempts to provide answers to students', aged 18-25, perception of women in action film and television. Within the literature review section, several topics are highlighted including: the timeline of women's appearances in film within the past decade, women's appearance in action films specifically, minority women appearance in action films, and accounts of the socio-political climate of modern-day America. The quantitative data presented in this report was received through a print survey, distributed to a variety of college students at Kennesaw State University. The data received provides an important contrast to the documents noted in the literature review and insight into the changing perceptions of Millennials and Generation Z.
